December 2013 is National Volunteer Month

Build Hope, Change Lives: Volunteer!

“…Organized and spontaneous, volunteerism contributes to the improvement of welfare and realization of peoples’ aspirations, develops leadership, empowers the citizenry and unifies civil society.”

The recent events that happened in the Philippines once again proved the unity of the Filipino people. Everyone from different parts of the country submitted themselves to volunteer, and donations poured, to help aid our fellow citizens.

Volunteerism intensifies the spirit of “bayanihan” embedded in the Filipinos’ hearts. Volunteers, inspired by humanitarian spirit, dedicate and contribute their time, skills, talent, knowledge, and money with the purpose of helping people and achieving development and progress. This gives positive impacts to the community and the volunteers themselves.

Thru Proclamation No. 55, in 1998, December of every year declared as National Volunteer Month in recognition of the vital role played by volunteers in nation building. It is hoped that this will promote and inspire others involve themselves in volunteerism.
